UPDATE FROM BOARD OF DIRECTORS
by Phyllis Norris
In August of 2021, the board hired Lacey Segal as Director of Operations and Luca Day as Admin Assistant. That momentous move has been successful in helping Lama Yeshe step back from day-to-day administrative oversight. With their quick learning and excellent skills, they made significant improvements in timeliness of sangha communications, event registrations, and website usability. They and the events teams took us through a whirlwind experience with Kalu Rinpoche’s visit. With this learning experience, KSC will be able to skillfully host many more such events and teachings in even greater support to our Lamas.
Board members have been freed up to focus on moving toward more strategic leadership roles. A good example of this shift is how the resignation of our admin assistant Luca was managed. Lacey took the lead in revamping the job description, advertising, organizing interviews and hiring an excellent candidate, Janet Langley. All in record time with barely a hitch in the normal workings of the office and with minimal input from board members.
At the same time that Lacey was hired as our Director of Operations, the board formed a new committee, the Administrative Oversight Committee (AOC). So far the AOC’s responsibilities focus on personnel management, being available to the Director of Ops and the AA when policy and procedure questions come up, being a sounding board, monitoring work flow, and communicating board priorities.
Each board meeting since last August has included significant time where we brainstorm how to formalize the strategic functions of specific board committees and their responsibilities. We are finalizing an organization chart that will serve KSC and our Lamas well into the future.
Nance Louise has stepped off the board after serving many years. We are so very grateful for her dedication, bright energy, and grounded wisdom through KSC’s growing years. This leaves eight board members and we are actively looking to add at least one more person.
With our Lamas on personal retreat for the summer, KSC will be in its quiet time starting in July. We encourage you to make the effort to stay connected to KSC’s dharma support. Come to the library in June and borrow books to continue your studies. Stay checked in with zoom links for Chenrezig, early morning Calm Abiding, and Green Tara or your other regular practices. Take the time to browse the website for recordings of teachings, listen to and practice them.
May you hold Kagyu Sukha Choling, your Lamas, and your sangha close to your heart as a reminder of where your true strengths and true protections lie.
Blessings abide –
