Introduction to Meditation
with Lama Liza
The word for meditation in Tibetan is gom, which literally means familiarization. In meditation practice, we familiarize ourselves again and again with the natural capacity of our mind to be present, to be kind and skillful, but which is often scattered and stressed due to the busyness and demands of daily life. A regular meditation practice of just a few minutes a day can have a significant impact in bringing more peace and well-being into our lives. Deepening our meditation practice can bring forth our inherent wisdom and compassion that are usually clouded by our habituated patterns and reactivity.
In this two-hour workshop, we will learn the basics of calm abiding meditation and how it fits into the overview of Tibetan Buddhism. We will use ordinary experiences such as our breath, sound, body sensations, and visual objects as support for practice, so we can learn how to rest our attention and discover the natural stability of our awareness. Participants will leave the workshop with the ability to establish a daily meditation practice, as well as resources for further practice and study.
