The natural state of our mind is referred to as Mahamudra. This naturally open, clear and sensitive state of mind is always present.
Unfortunately, our confused habits constantly direct our mind outward to grasp at exterior phenomena, reinforcing the dualistic perception of self and other. This is the fundamental basis of our suffering.
Recognizing the natural and free state of mind requires training to direct our minds inward. First, we train in settling and stabilizing the mind (Tranquility), and based on that, we can apply the methods of profound seeing (Insight), in which we look directly at mind itself.
This weekend’s instruction and practice of these methods will be suitable to new practitioners, as well as those who wish to deepen their experience. The retreat also serves as an introduction tothe KSC meditation practice groups which begin in October — the Tranquility group (utilizing Calm Abiding), and Insight groups I and II.
As the lamas return from retreat, they look forward to offering this teaching, and practicing once again with the sangha. Plan to attend in person if possible, so that all may experience the benefit of the center’s sacred space and the power of community.
