Chenrezig Half-Day Retreat

with Lama Yeshe
via Zoom

Lama Yeshe will introduce the meditation methods of visualization and mantra recitation, and then give complete instructions for the Condensed Chenrezig meditation. This condensed practice is the original practice , from the Shangpa Kagyyu yogi Tang Tong Gyalpo (11th century).

This half-day retreat is open to anyone and suitable for any interested meditator. "Deity" practices in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition are actually an ornate version of Calm Abiding. In deity meditations, one focuses on an image, or recreates that image in their visual imagination, or replicates the realized energy in their own heart and mind. Instead of the breath being our focus, as in our usual Calm Abiding practice, we focus on the created image + energy, and share it with all beings.

Chenrezig ("He who gazes with eyes of compassion") represents the enlightened, limitless qualities of loving kindness and compassion. This meditation offers a way for us to expand those qualities within ourselves, and strengthen our ability and dedication to act in the world from those qualities.
