Ceremonial Arts Hands-On Training:
A Day in the Sanctuary with Lama Yeshe
Saturday, February 17 (10 am – noon & 2 – 4 pm)
IN-PERSON ONLY
Tuition: $50 for the day ($40 reduced rate)
To begin the day, we will learn about the two lineages that are preserved at KSC, and then we will gather around the shrine. What are the objects placed on it, and why are those objects chosen to be there? There will be time to hold and view many of the altar offerings, allowing us to become comfortable at the shrine.
We will particularly familiarize ourselves with the offering bowls, which are utilized at all practices and teachings in the sanctuary. How do we clean them? How do we fill them with appropriate offerings, and then “close” them at the end of practice? Everyone will have time to practice (or refine) these basic skills during the morning session. Anyone can learn these skills, and all are welcome to attend.
KSC will be fortunate to have guest teachers over the next several months. There will be an in-person teaching weekend with Lama Sarah Harding (March 1 – 3), and we also hope for another in-person visit from H.E. Kalu Rinpoche.
To prepare for those visits, the leaders of the ceremony, hospitality, and shrine cleaning sections of the team will describe the main tasks that one might learn and practice during a guest teacher event. As hands-on preparation for those visits, we will review how to prepare and deliver beverages to the teacher in the sanctuary, as well as how to deliver meals to the apartments upstairs.
This day is open to anyone who seeks informative time in the sanctuary -- a chance to have your questions answered and become more comfortable in our shared sacred space.
All are welcome. This is an in-person event, and pre-registration is required.
