Losar, the Tibetan New Year

  • Kagyu Sukha Chöling 109 Clear Creek Drive Ashland, OR, 97520 United States (map)

Mahakala (5:00 pm) and Chenrezig (6:15 pm) Meditations

Hybrid event, open to all, no registration needed

Tibetan New Year is celebrated in early February this year. To honor Losar, we practice a meditation of cutting through obstacles. This clears the energy of the old year, to make space for a fresh start.

Our Losar meditations are Mahakala, a fierce expression of loving kindness and compassion, followed by Chenrezig, a peaceful expression of loving kindness and compassion. These companion practices offer a balance of methods to lift the suffering of beings.

Lama Yeshe will lead the two practices, opening each with a short talk about Losar and the practices themselves. Mahakala will be done in chanted Tibetan; Condensed Chenrezig will be done in English.

All are welcome to attend either or both of the meditations. For those who attend in person, you are invited to bring contributions of non-perishable foods to benefit the Talent Food Bank, and also clothing and warm camping gear for the “In the Warm” project.

May we all join in clearing obstacles from the past, to welcome in a new year!
